Latest updates on project activities from the Philippines for the month of January 2022

Activities carried out:

  • Identification of sites for Farmers' Field School - The project team has identified Calapan and Quezon province as sites for Farmer’s Field School
  • Demo farms and community field genebank - The project team has identified Bula and San Luis, Aurora as Demo Farm and CFG sites
  • Production of proceedings and training modules - the project team is currently writing and producing the Proceedings and training modules for the participants of the TOT
  • Good Agricultural Practices - The project team is currently conducting an experiment on Good Agricultural Practices of Taro in the Philippines using three varieties, GB 59727(promising accession), GB 55342, and PHL 33224)
  • Characterization of taro - Currently, the project team has Completely Characterized 76 taro accessions and Partially Characterized 33. A total of 48 taro accessions are yet to be characterized
  • National Webinar Series on taro - The project team is currently planning to conduct a webinar series about taro production and conservation in the second quarter of the project
